Three years ago (2008) when my technology director joined the district he mentioned Moodle. At the time it was new to me, but I had used Blackboard as a teacher and student before. Also, our technology infrastructure couldn't support it and there were limited options locally. In the summer of 2010, a teacher inquired about Moodle while at the same time I learned that Moodle was coming to the Delaware County Intermediate Unit. A pilot had begun, but now with the Chester County Intermediate Unit. Our plan is to return to the DCIU next year.
In January of 2011, 11 teachers began a semester-long training and integration pilot for Moodle in several of their courses led by me. There is even discussion of using Moodle to host courses for our impending staff college for professional development. This could not have been possible with support and funding from the school board, the superintendent, the directors curriculum and instruction, and the teachers.
